#1: The Wolverine
Hugh Jackman returns as the titular character, marking his 5th film in the role. While other actors gradually let themselves go, suffering from “franchise fatigue”, Jackman never fails to return completely jacked and determined to do the role that made him a household name, justice.This adventure finds Logan in Japan. Directed by James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) his expertise is helping lift expectations with his ability to elevate material with great success.

#2: The Way Way Back
This film tells the coming of age story of a young boy, who develops an unexpected friendship with the manager of the water park he attends, to escape his dysfunctional family.Led by newcomer Liam James, it is Sam Rockwell who’s been receiving massive acclaim by critics for his performance in the most buzzed about movie at this year’s Sundance. Steve Carell is playing out of type in this, so that could be interesting. Release Date: July 26
#3: Blue Jasmine
Woody Allen’s latest offering centers on Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) as she attempts to reconnect with her sister (Sally Hawkins) in San Francisco following a self-crisis. Any Woody Allen movie is a must-see. His 2000’s period was almost flawless.Allen is a director who constantly reinvents himself as he has mastered a variety of genres. Last year’s To Rome with Love was a bit of a disappointment but by collaborating again with Alec Baldwin, this movie can’t go wrong. Release Date: July 26
#4: The Spectacular Now
This was another very popular title at Sundance, director James Ponsoldt is back after his critically praised drama Smashed. The story centers on a tale as old as time, struggling boy (Miles Teller) meets gifted girl (Shailene Woodley), opposites attract and drama ensues. However, with the screenwriting talents of Michael H. Weber (500 Days of Summer) this promises to be a refreshing take on this oft-used plot.The trailer indicates something deeper and more thoughtful. One of the main draws to this film is the promising talent of Miles Teller (The Rabbit Hole, Footloose) in the lead role, a definite star on the rise. #5: We’re the Millers
This zany comedy finds a pot dealer (Jason Sudeikis) trying to make it across the border with the aid of a fake family (Jennifer Aniston & Emma Roberts) he assembles. As a sucker for anything Aniston, this is one of her more promising scripts after she showed off a different side in Horrible Bosses.One of the elements that compose her appeal is her “hanging with the boys” mentality and with Sudeikis she has a very worthy companion. He is a scene stealer and his SNL-built confidence can anchor its own movie. Release Date: August 7
