The Lost Cause Podcast Link: 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Episode

I recently had the pleasure of returning as a guest on the Lost Cause Podcast, hosted by Drew Koenig (@thedrewkoenig) and Amanda Williams (@Amandimation). Per their Twitter bio, this entertaining podcast focuses on the avid discussion of “television and pop culture”. In January, I had the pleasure of guesting on their third episode, which recapped the ‘Lost’ episode “Walkabout” and saluted the best in 2015's film and television. You can listen to it by clicking here.

In episode 5, Drew and Amanda tackled the ‘Lost’ episodes “House of the Rising Sun” and “The Moth” and the recent batch of movie releases before shifting gears to the 2015 film ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ for a conversation in honor of the one-year anniversary of its initial release.

Among the panelists weighing in on that latter portion were FlickeringMyth.com contributor Thomas O’Connor (@TomTypesWords) and myself. The debate shared by the group was lively and in many ways, eye opening. Amanda, Drew and Thomas each offered diverse reasons for why they enjoyed the film in an illuminating conversation that proved to be very educational for this non-fan of the critically lauded flick.

It is always interesting and important to listen to contrasting thoughts on films and entertainment, in general. It expands our purview and incites us to reexamine our own thoughts and opinions concerning a shared experience. The fact that we as viewers can all see the exact same movie and walk away with very disparate reactions never ceases to amaze and it is one of the things that make this art form so important and fascinating to study.

For Amanda, it was a second viewing that changed her initially negative reaction to the movie. Seeing a movie twice can have that effect and while it is not something that I would anticipate experiencing with this particular one, it makes me curious about how or why we can respond to the same movie differently upon a second viewing.

Despite personal sentiments, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ has been one of those movies that just keeps giving, as it has been a very popular topic among readers. It was Eclectic Pop’s #5 most-read movie review of 2015 and the Top 5 Problems with 'Mad Max: Fury Road' was the #16 most-read piece of 2015 and both pieces continued to enjoy a presence on the list of most-read content, early in the year. Even its most ardent detractor has to tip their hat to a movie that elicits such a strong reaction.
