First, a quick starter stat. Eclectic Pop published 19 movie reviews in 2018. Out of those 19, twelve were of movies released last year. Two reviews from 2018 are among the most-read.
All of the reviews were positive. While there are varying degrees of positivity, all of the reviews that made it are in that realm.
Three out of the five movies were non-English language films. Meaning only two of the movies that made the most-read were in English.
Another noticeable trend is the popular genres. The majority of the most-read reviews are of movies that are suspense-based. There are exceptions though. One movie is a straight-up romance with
suspense elements and the other is a coming-of-age dramedy.
Think you have an idea of what movie reviews made the most-read? Find out if you are right by reading below…
#5: “The Villainess” (2017)
This jaw-dropping thriller was released in 2017. However, yours truly only got to see it the following spring. Suffice it say, it was worth the wait. Read the review for more encouragement to watch, in case you have not yet here.
#4: “Fifty Shades Freed” (2018)
Last year, marked the end of an era for a certain erotic film franchise. As 2018 saw the release of the adaptation of the third and final “Fifty Shades of Grey” novel. The review barely missed the #3 spot. Read the review of “Fifty Shades Freed” right here.
#3: “Perdida” (2018)
It is one of only two movies from Eclectic Pop’s list of 2018’s Best Movies to make the top five. The compelling Netflix thriller edged out “Fifty Shades Freed” by a slim margin. Still, the third slot is “Perdida’s.” Read the review here.
#2: “Forgotten” (2017)
“Forgotten” goes back-to-back with “Perdida” as the second movie to be crowned one of the year’s best on Eclectic Pop. And have its review be one of the site’s most-read.
The difference between “Perdida” and “Forgotten” in terms of a margin is considerable. Interestingly, two thrillers fill both the second and third slots. Read the review of “Forgotten” here.
#1: “Lady Bird” (2017)
I was a little late to the “Lady Bird” party last year, despite its award season buzz. Published a few days after the 2017 Oscars aired, the review eventually skyrocketed to the year's spot as the most-read. This, after a bit of a slow start readership-wise.
As of 2018, “Lady Bird” is the third most-read movie review in Eclectic Pop’s history. Coming in behind “The Getaway Plan” and “Carrie Pilby.” That is not the only record, “Lady Bird” exits 2018 with. It is also the #8 most-read post on Eclectic Pop, period. Read the review of “Lady Bird,” here.

Well, that was 2018 on Eclectic Pop in movie reviews. There was one significant personal lesson I learned as a blogger this past year. It is never too late to write a review for a movie that matters to you.
