“Unauthorized Living” (“Vivir sin permiso”) Season 2 premieres Friday, January 31, 2020, on Netflix. Prepare for more drama and incredible intrigue as the second season makes its debut. For those who may be unfamiliar with the rave-worthy series, I highly encourage bingeing the first season before Season 2 arrives.
If you have been following Eclectic Pop over the last year, you know that my affection for this series is quite profound. It made my list of 2019’s best TV shows due to its gripping drama and vivid cast of characters. Led by the outstanding Jose Coronado, “Unauthorized Living” follows Coronado’s Nemo Bandeira.
Nemo lives a double life as a legitimate businessman and a crime boss. Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease when the first season begins, he is forced to choose a successor to the empire he wants to legitimize. Meanwhile, Nemo works indefatigably to bring his family together, amid increasing police pressure.
Season 2 ended with a game-changing cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to see how it is resolved. “Unauthorized Living” has set the stage for a climactic installment. I could see this series stretching on for years, so here is hoping Season 2 paves the way to making that possible. Few shows have as many compelling factors going for it as this one does.
If you love “Yellowstone,” or “Money Heist,” “Unauthorized Living” is a perfect fit for your Netflix queue. It has the family drama of “Yellowstone” replete with a complex patriarch and sibling in-fighting. In terms of “Money Heist,” the series has a steady supply of crime drama to keep you satiated while awaiting the heist thriller’s return.
Personal expectations are high for Season 2, and yet, this is one series I feel confident is capable of meeting them. Throughout its freshman season, “Unauthorized Living” just kept building with one jaw-dropping twist after another. There was never a dull moment, and the characters just became more and more intriguing to watch.
Spoilers for the Season 1 ending of “Unauthorized Living” are discussed beyond this point.
As fans know, the show left off with Mario (Álex González) being thrown off a cliff by a confused Nemo. Mario should be dead. The idea of “Unauthorized Living” parting with a villain like Mario without him ever getting his due is hard to fathom, though. Will Season 2 keep viewers in suspense for long?
Hopefully not. It will not be too much longer before everyone gets a chance to find out! In related news, I am intensely hoping that Carlos (Àlex Monner) can return to his old self. Season 2 without him back in full-form is impossible to imagine.
You can catch up on the first season of “Unauthorized Living” (“Vivir sin permiso”) on Netflix. Season 2 premieres on Friday, January 31.
