Is 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' Worth Watching?

I did it. I watched Season 1 of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” – Hulu’s relatively new reality TV series. If you like Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise, you are in for a treat. As the title suggests, the show follows the highs and lows of a group of Mormon wives.

How did we get here? The cast of young twenty-somethings started a TikTok movement that Taylor Frankie Paul deemed “MomTok.” In the age of TikTok, Reddit, Instagram, and so on, secrets are harder than ever to keep. Cue a scandal right out of “Sex/Life” Season 1.

The Truth

Taylor Frankie Paul revealed that she got caught up in “soft swinging.” Paul’s coiffured terminology for the – activity – is so creative it rivals Gwyneth Paltrow’s coining of “uncoupling.” It is PR greatness. (I’m 100% serious.) The cast of young wives, some of whom are mothers, finds it tricky to blaze forward post-scandal.

Those who remember their roaring twenties should easily dial into the drama. It is reminiscent of peak “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” The storylines feel organically cultivated, and the relationships - genuine.

No Secret

The cast is full of colorful characters that each shine in their own right. There are some things that viewers could have used more context to better understand. The show has an entertaining cast with no weak links and keep this in mind.

The eight episodes of Season 1 only scratch the surface. In case you were wondering, we will get a chance to learn more. Yes – “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” will be back for new episodes in spring 2025, per Deadline.

I’m Excited

Taylor, Whitney, Layla, Mayci, Jen, Demi, Mikayla, and Jessi each have their own intriguing story. Unlike a lot of documentary-style series that have chronicled the lives of Mormon wives – none of the featured couples practice polygamy or plural marriage. Forget “Sister Wives.” Hulu’s “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” is a lot less filtered.

It is one of the buzziest new reality TV shows to hit Hulu. Discussion of it is everywhere, and as much as that statement sounds like an exaggeration – it isn’t. It feels great to check out of your reality and check into the wild times of these Mormon wives.

Sometimes, you need a reality show to take the edge off of your own drama - for real. “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” is currently streaming on Hulu, alongside “Something in the Water” and “Deep Water.” 💚
